Day 1

After unpacking both the suitcases and the shopping, we stuck the chicken in the oven and headed out for a walk.  Although our road is a cul de sac, there is the cobbled alleyway which takes you all the way down to the lake and comes out next to Hotel Villa Marie where co-incidentally W&R stayed a couple of years ago.  The cobbles were a little hard on the feet and, I should imagine, rather slippery when wet.

Across the road, lake side, is this lovely little garden which was once part of a grand villa now sadly fallen into disrepair.

We then walked along the side of the lake but as you can see it was getting near dusk.

Most towns on the lake have a Grand Hotel, this is the swimming pool and waiting water taxis at Tremezzo's.

On the Eastern shore of the lake is the small town of Bellagio, after which the amazing Las Vegas hotel is named.

Villa Melzi, one of the many notable villas in the "Golden Triangle"

There are 3 different types of ferry that ply the lake; slow, traghetto (car ferry) and fast (hydrofoil) as below.

We carried on walking for a mile or so into nearby Griante (the little waterside towns all seem to merge into one another) and stopped for a glass of wine before heading home to rescue the chicken.

Tremezzo is supposedly a beautiful town, one of the lake's gems along with Varenna and Bellagio, but to be honest there doesn't seem to be much here; a few empty restaurants and closed up bars but not really a town as such.

In actual fact we were too tired to eat much when we got home, so just had cheese and biscuits and headed for bed.
