Day 4 AM - Menaggio

Today's weather forecast isn't brilliant (but a lot better than what's coming later!) so we decided to spend the day driving around the north of the lake.

First stop was Menaggio, also considered part of the Golden Triangle.  Parking is always a problem in these small towns but Ian had discovered that free roadside parking was available if we were willing to walk 5 mins into town.  And what a lovely little town it is.

The small harbour

Everywhere we looked there were displays of beautiful pink Mandevilla splendens.

As you can probably guess, this shop specialised in lavender products.

In the tourist office we were able to pick up a leaflet detailing a walk which took us all around the old town.  As if we hadn't had enough cobbles yesterday!

And yet more cobbles, they really do make my feet sore.

I have no idea what this decoration on a building meant, but I liked it.

And these gnomes too.

This bridge is supposed to be very picturesque but we were not overly impressed.

Maybe if we'd been able to get into this derelict building, we would have been able to get "the shot".

Heading back towards the lake shore, we walked down this street - I was rather glad I wasn't driving as the options for vehicles were severely limited!

An unusual place to find an art gallery, it seemed more like a garage, but some of the works were rather nice.

Finally we found the view of the river and bridge.

A few pictures on the way back in the centre of town.

We stopped for a cup of tea/coffee and to watch the world go by for a while.   The Como Marathon was being run today and Menaggio was the finish point although the earliest finishers weren't due for another couple of hours.  Interestingly, although it was called a marathon as far as I can tell the distance was 31kms (19.6 miles) so a little on the short side.

This lady with her fag and dogs just shouted "Italian" so I took a sneaky snap.

And I'd assumed it was only stupid Brits who thought this was an acceptable way to wear a mask!

After retrieving the car we decided to drive back to a supermarket we'd walked past which looked considerably bigger than the one we'd gone to in Lenno on Day 1.  We were running out of wine and also needed to get some biscuits to take home for my fellow Pfizer Chiefs.  It was a strange kind of place, on several levels with interconnecting walkways but certainly offered more than we'd seen previously.
